更现实的问题是不少中高级学习者一开口就是Can you understand English这种把“听懂”和“会说”混为一谈的错句写邮件时又把make yourself understood用成make you understood。 比如I understand the instructions. She understood every word he said. I understand why you made that decision. After working with him for a month, I finally understand how he thinks. 比如I know his name你知道他的名字I know how to swim你知道游泳的方法通常也表示会游。 你可以know the fact却不一定understand the reason。 I realized I had left my keys at home. Ask me if you dont see what I mean就是“如果没明白我的意思就问我”。 I cant figure out how to fix the printer表示“我想不出怎么修打印机”。 I finally figured it out但不常说I finally understood it虽然语法上没错因为前者更强调那个“费劲弄明白”的过程。 You dont understand me at all. She really understands children. I dont understand the question、I cant understand his behavior这些结构简单但极其实用。 I understand that the new policy takes effect next Monday. 这里的I understand that...相当于I have heard that...或It is my understanding that... 接wh-疑问从句同样常见understand后面可以跟why、what、how、where、when等引导的从句I dont understand why he got so angry.Do you understand what Im saying? She couldnt understand how the machine worked at first. I dont understand why he left写成I dont understand the reason. He left. I dont understand why he left一句话就能表达清楚。 I cant understand his leaving without saying goodbye. We fully understand your wanting to keep the original plan. I dont understand to do this这其实是错的。 I dont understand why you do this或者I dont understand doing this。 I understand him to be a very careful person. 还可以接“it that从句”表示“我的理解是……”I understand it that you will join us next week. My German is not very good, but I can make myself understood in a restaurant. 很多人会误写成make you understood或make others understood。理论上make others understood也可以讲得通但最标准、最常用的就是make myself understood / make himself understood即主语和宾语指向同一个人的反身结构。 I want to make you understand me。 I want to make myself understood。 3.2 give sb to understand使某人了解到give sb to understand是一个很正式的书面表达意思是“使某人相信/使某人了解到”经常以被动形式be given to understand出现I was given to understand that the project had been approved. I was given to understand that... I understand how you feel或者I completely understand。 I understand you used to work for that company. The company is understood to be planning a new product launch next month. The two sides are understood to have reached a preliminary agreement. Im understanding。I understand the problem now.正确Im understanding the problem now. I have come to understand how important this is. The question is understood by me。 This remark could be understood as a criticism. 第二类是前面说过的be understood to do表“据信”He is understood to be in his early forties. Now I have understood the difference between these two words. Now I understand the difference或Now I get the difference因为“现在明白”这个状态用一般现在时最直接。 After he explained it twice, I understood what he meant. Do you see what I mean? Are we on the same page?我们理解一致吗Does that make sense? 这里列几种最典型的easy to understand / difficult to understand非常简单/难以理解。例如The instructions are easy to understand.understand each other / understand one another互相理解。例如We have known each other for years, and we understand each other well.fully / completely / perfectly understand完全理解。例如I fully understand your concern.begin to understand / come to understand开始理解。例如I began to understand the value of patience after becoming a parent. First I objected to the new rule, but over time I came to understand its purpose. We understand your concern about the timeline. As far as I understand, the deadline has been extended. It is understood that all participants must register in advance. 最后这个It is understood that... It is understood that the prices quoted are subject to change意为“报价如有变动以最终确认为准”。这种表达在合同和商务邮件中特别常见比People all know that... 核心搭配包括have a good understanding of sth对某事物有很好的理解mutual understanding相互理解reach / come to an understanding达成共识、达成谅解on the understanding that... The two parties have reached an understanding on the basic framework. He agreed to lend me the car on the understanding that I would return it by Friday. on the understanding that... I accepted the offer on the understanding that the salary would be reviewed after six months比直白的I accepted because... Yes, I understand English, but I cant speak it。正确提问是Do you speak English如果你想问“你能听懂英语吗”才说Can you understand English但这并不是“你会不会说英语”的意思。第二个是understand about English。很多学习者受know about的影响在understand后面也加about。 I know a lot about computers。 What do you understand by the project或Whats your understanding of the project而不是What do you understand about the project第三个是make me understood。 I was in Japan, and I managed to make myself understood with a few simple phrases.Even though his English is limited, he can always make himself understood in meetings. The essay is well written, but the author fails to make himself understood in the conclusion. I dont make others understand me而是make myself understood。 Do you speak English? understand表“听懂”speak表“会说”understand后面接to do不推荐。 被动只用于be understood as和be understood to do我“现在懂了”要不要用完成时通常不用。说I understand / Now I understand即可完成时多表“从过去持续到现在”make someone understood用make oneself understood主语和反身代词对应I understand that... 最后两行尤其关键I understand that... 每学一个动词搭配就紧接着想想它的名词形式该怎么用学了understand your concern顺手记一下your understanding of the situation学了understand why顺手记一下the reason is beyond my understanding。
